I originally began the portrait series as a way to stave off the isolation of the studio. I discovered I could work and socialize at the same time, but it has evolved into much more than that. I prefer to work with people in their home environment; a sort of ‘have easel, will travel’ deal. I find people tend to be more relaxed in their own surroundings. Something magical happens when you take the time to truly see another human being. How often do we do that in our lives? How often do we allow ourselves to be seen? At some point, the true self is revealed, and this is the moment I look for. Hopefully it is the moment I catch.
