My constructions were actually the precursor to my later Dream Series. I started painting simple objects like cereal boxes and paper towel tubes in white and shining lights on them for still-life studies. I wanted to create very clear and simple color studies. They were meant to be exercises rather than finished products, but eventually I started hot-gluing the boxes together and images would emerge and the colors became more vivid and dramatic and thus the Construction series was born. I don’t make them anymore because I’ve run out of storage space in my house. They are sturdy, but lightweight wall pieces mounted on foam core.
